Mudville Pinnacle Finishes Fifth at Mickey Merriam Memorial Tournament

Seattle, WA - After a slow tournament start, Mudville (36-15, 6-4) fought back and placed 5th after losing to the 808 Dragons from Honolulu, HI at Lower Woodland on the 4th of July. Mudville advanced to Saturday's play beating Narrows Baseball Club the night before, 7-4.

Mudville got their money's worth of games, playing ten games in five days. Mudville lead the majority of the game until the Dragons scored seven runs in the last two frames to win the game. The Dragons pitching limited Pinnacle to 3 hits but gave up 7 walks and 3 hit batsman which Mudville could not convert.

Cam Wilson plucked three wins during the tournament, one as a starter in a shortened game via mercy rule, the other two wins via relief. Andrew Pittman, Seafth Howe and Erik Jensen picked up the other three wins. Team ERA was a 3.69 for the 10-game event. Matt Boyd led all M9 hitters with a .524 average and 7 doubles. Daniel Schmidt picked up 9 RBI. Mudville hit .281 with a .420 OBA in this wood bat event.

This event memorializes one of Mudville Youth Baseball Club's founding fathers, Mickey Merriam. His son Ryan is one of the original Mudville 9 team members from the 2000 team. Mickey was an assistant coach and Ryan played for Mudville during the 1999-2001 seasons before joining the Seattle Stars. Mudville's Annual Community Service Award is named in his honor. Mickey's most unique contribution to the club was the selection of the Mudville club colors.
