Mudville Pinnacle Advances to Palouse Playoffs with 4-2 Victory Over Baden

Pullman, WA - The Mudville Nine advanced to the Palouse Summer Series semi-finals for the second year in a row with a 4-2 victory over Baden.  Under the lights of Bailey-Brayton Field on the campus of Washington State University, Pitcher James King pitched a complete game, 7-hit  victory and 1B Matt Boyd went 3 for 3, with 2 triples and a double.

 

King (2-1), a freshman a Whitworth University, pitched his first complete game victory of the season.  King kept Baden hitters off balance, striking out 7 and walking 3.  Matt Boyd provided the octane at the plate with two triples and a double, scoring twice with 2 RBI. 

 

DH Peter Summerville knocked Mudville’s remaining RBI.  OF Troy Perry and Catcher AJ Simpson each went 2 for 3.  SS Jeff Melby picked up the last hit and scored a run in the fifth.  The bottom of the fifth was the moment changer, as OF Tommy Boguch reach first after swinging through the third strike.  Melby followed with the single, Troy Colyer reached on a fielder's choice before Boyd laced his second triple of the game scoring two.  He later scored on Summerville's ground out to second.

Pinnacle lost earlier in round robin play to the Seattle Shockers, 5-3 in a game that had no effect on the round robin standings.  Mudville plays the Bozeman Bucs, a Legion team from Bozeman, MT at 10:30 AM, Colfax HS in the first semi-final game.  Mudville Pinnacle beat Narrows Baseball Club in the 2008 Palouse Summer Series Championship Game.
