- Mudville (13-1, 8-0) extended their winning streak to 12 games with complete game pitching performances by Matt Boyd (3-0) and Seafth Howe (1-0) on Sunday against the Riptide 19U team, 4-3 and 1-0 at St. Martins University.In Game #1, The Nisqually Nine jumped on starter Matt Boyd with three runs on three hits, a walk and hit batsman in their first inning of play. For the remainder of the afternoon, Riptide would never cross the plate again as Boyd allowed only one more runner, a single in the 7th before striking out 10.
Mudville's defense was stalwart as their offense scratched away for 4 runs. In the second Danny Poplawski and Daniel Schmidt singled, followed by a Jordan Richards sacrifice fly and a Tommy Boguch RBI single. In the fourth, CF Richartz clubbed his second sacrifice fly of the game which plated Schmidt who singled, stole 2nd and 3rd, followed by a David Courtney hit-by-pitch. The final tally was produced by SS Jeff Melby's single and stolen base. Boyd singled Melby home for the go ahead run. Both Boguch and 2B Troy Colyer went 2 for 3 in the game.
In Game #2, RHP Seafth Howe dazzled the Nisquallians with a 3-hit shut-out, allowing only a walk and HBP, striking out 5. Riptide lefty pitcher Mitchell pitched almost as good allowing only 1 unearned run on 5 hits and a walk. Mudville scored in the third on consecutive singles by SS Melby and 2B Colyer followed by a Riptide throwing error. Colyer went 3 for 3 and DH Boyd, 1 for 2 with a walk.
Mudville is now 8-0 in WSBL play.
