- Mudville Pinnacle (11-1) extended their winning streak to 10 wins today with a sweep of the North Corner Tribe, 4-3 and 5-3. Liberty High School pitchers Conner Sjolander (1-0) and Andrew Pittman (2-0) each delivered outstanding pitching performances keeping the Everett-based squad at bay under the sunny skiers of Island Crest Park.In Game #1, North Corner allowed only seven Mudville hits. In the 1st inning, Danny Poplawski drove in 2 RBI, scoring Matt Boyd and Peter Summerville with a double. Matt Boyd, who was 2 for 3, drove in two runs with a ground out in the third and a RBI single in the fifth. Jeff Melby and Summerville reached base safely twice. Mudville turned 2 double plays in the first four innings to shut the Tribe offense down. Troy Perry gained his first save of the season, striking out 4 in 1-2/3 innings of relief.
In Game #2, Andrew Pittman pitched his longest outing of the 2009 season after breaking his hand early in the high school season. Pittman threw six innings plus, allowed only 2 earned runs, fanning four Tribesman. Liberty HS teammate, Troy Colyer earned his first save of the year pitching the seventh inning. Again, North Corner only allowed five Mudville hits but walked 8 Mudville hitters. Summerville, Boyd, Poplawski and DH TJ Parthemer each drove in one run apiece.
